Only fire-safe cigarettes will be available legally in Rhode Island
Only fire-safe cigarettes will be available legally in Rhode Island if the proposed legislation has been passed by the General Assembly. State Sen. James Doyle, D-Dist. 8, introduced a bill, modeled on the 2004 Act, New York, which prohibits the sale of cigarettes, which are not fireproof. Fireproof cigarettes are different from other types of cigarettes that they are wrapped in two or three narrow bands of less porous paper. If a burning cigarette left unattended, it will probably put out when it burns in one of the zones. Retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers of cigarettes, which do not comply with the proposed act faces a fine up to $ 10000, according to a press release from Doyle. Legislation Doyle, supported by groups including the National Fallen firefighters Foundation, AARP and the National Fire Protection Association. States with similar laws already in place include Massachusetts, Vermont, California and Illinois.
